Steel Pan Workshop with Michael Gabriel

On Monday afternoon, Mr. Graf and Ms. Higgins’ Steel Pan students had the opportunity to work with the exceptionally talented Michael Gabriel. Students played for one another, explored new techniques with a professional musician, and listened to stories about Michael’s own journey learning the steel pan at their age.

Thank you to Michael for sharing his time and expertise. We look forward to continuing to grow the program and building on this experience in the future.

Celebrating Success in ELD!

Our final ELD unit focused on the theme of success. Students took time to reflect on their school year and identify moments when they felt proud of their accomplishments. Through writing and discussion, they shared the goals they achieved, the challenges they overcame, and the growth they experienced throughout the year.

Students also recognized the important people who supported them along the way, including teachers, family members, friends, and classmates. They reflected on the strategies that helped them succeed, such as perseverance, organization, asking for help, and maintaining a positive mindset.

This meaningful unit provided an opportunity for students to celebrate their achievements, acknowledge their growth, and look ahead with confidence as they continue their educational journey. 🌟

7th Grade Whale Watch Adventure from Barnstable Harbor

On Tuesday the 16th, 7th grade students took part in a whale watch out of Barnstable Harbor. Students headed out on the water to explore the local marine environment and had the chance to observe whales and other sea life in their natural habitat.

Throughout the trip, students connected what they are learning in science with real-world experiences, gaining a deeper understanding of ocean ecosystems, animal behavior, and conservation. The opportunity brought classroom learning to life in a meaningful way and created a memorable hands-on experience for all involved.

🌎 Model UN: A Galaxy-Wide Mission to Save Earth! 🚀

This year's 6th Grade Model UN event was a huge success! Students participated in an immersive, school-wide simulation where they represented countries, delivered speeches, negotiated with fellow delegates, drafted resolutions, and voted on solutions to a global crisis: defeating the Imperial Death Star!

This year's Star Wars-themed scenario blended international diplomacy with an original story centered on artificial intelligence, a humanitarian crisis, and the fate of Earth. Through formal debate, informal negotiations, and a final vote, students put their research, public speaking, collaboration, and critical-thinking skills into action as they worked together to solve the crisis.

We are incredibly proud of our delegates for their engagement, creativity, and commitment throughout the event. The future of global leadership is bright!

🎶 7th Grade Concert – June 17th 🎶

On June 17th, our 7th grade music students showcased their talents in a wonderful end-of-year concert featuring performances by the 6th & 7th grade chorus, 6th & 7th grade fiddlers, 7th grade orchestra, and 7th grade band.

A special thank you to Mr. Graf, Mrs. Cutler, and Mrs. Cutts for their dedication and leadership in preparing our students. We also extend appreciation to pianist Mr. Cutts for his special accompaniment and support throughout the performance.

A fantastic evening celebrating the hard work, growth, and talent of our student musicians! 🎵

Dennis-Yarmouth Middle School Annual Career Day

Dennis-Yarmouth Middle School recently hosted its annual Career Day, giving students the opportunity to explore a wide range of careers and future pathways. During the morning, 34 guest speakers from professions including healthcare, engineering, public safety, education, law, business, technology, the arts, and more rotated through classrooms, sharing their experiences and advice with students.

After the morning sessions, students enjoyed a midday celebration featuring a dance party and snow cones.

The afternoon featured a Pathways Expo with students and representatives from Cape Cod Regional Technical High School and Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School. Students learned about academic and career-focused opportunities available in high school and heard firsthand experiences during a student panel discussion.

A special thank you goes to all of our presenters, high school partners, staff, and volunteers who helped make this year’s Career Day a fun, engaging, and inspiring experience for our students.

Library Book Return Reminder

A stack of five colorful, hardcover books with green, blue, yellow, orange, and pink covers.
Dear DYM Families,

Here is a quick update on student library overdues from this school year. We are seeing progress, but we still have a number of books that need to be returned:

Grade 6: 110 books out
Grade 7: 61 books out

That brings us to a total of 171 student books still needing to be returned.

If your child has any library books at home, please take a moment to check and return them as soon as possible. Books can be placed in backpacks and brought back to the library.

Thank you for your continued support in helping us get all materials back and ready for next year.

Supporting Student Well-Being at DY Middle School

DYM is working to bring a school-based counseling program to our school in partnership with Child & Family Services (CFS). Once we have enough interested students and required paperwork is completed, we will be able to offer this support during the school day. CFS provides counseling services for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns. Services are delivered by licensed therapists, billed through medical insurance, and include collaboration with school staff. If you are interested in this opportunity for your child, please review the information attached about the CFS Outreach Counseling Program and complete the steps for your child to be involved.
