Keys to Success: Sixth and Seventh Graders Learn Piano!

Our 6th and 7th grade music students are ending the school year on a high note as they begin a new piano unit! 🎹

Students are learning the fundamentals of piano playing, including note identification, proper hand positioning, and using all five fingers on each hand. They are also exploring tutorials for their favorite songs and challenging themselves to find and play the correct notes on their keyboards.

It's exciting to see students build new musical skills, develop confidence, and discover the joy of making music through piano!

🤖 Building, Coding, and Creating in Robotics Club!

DYMS's Afterschool Robotics Exploration Club put their creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to work as they designed and built custom robots using LEGO® SPIKE Prime materials. Students explored robotics engineering by constructing robots with the Large Matrix Hub, the "brain" of the robot, along with motors and sensors including distance, color, and force sensors.

Using Word Blocks, a visual drag-and-drop coding language based on Scratch, students programmed their creations to perform a variety of tasks. Through teamwork, experimentation, and innovation, club members gained valuable experience in coding, engineering design, and computational thinking while bringing their robotic ideas to life.

What Success Means to Me

As part of the ELD unit on Success, students were invited to bring in a photo that represented a personal achievement or meaningful accomplishment. Using academic vocabulary and targeted grammar skills from the unit, students shared why they selected their pictures and how each one demonstrated success.

Students reflected on a wide variety of experiences, including writing and presenting poems in English, showcasing projects from previous ELD classes, learning to cook, caring for younger family members, and other important milestones in their lives. This activity provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their language skills while celebrating the many ways success can be defined and achieved.

DYMS Students Earn Rotary Scholarships for ASLP at Mass Maritime

Congratulations to Grace Bovino, Jacob Truong, Johnny Bryant, Clara Nunes, and Keria Hession for being recognized at DYMS after receiving Rotary Scholarships to attend the Advanced Studies and Leadership Program (ASLP) at Massachusetts Maritime Academy this summer!

ASLP is a competitive, two-week summer residential experience developed by the Cape Cod Collaborative in partnership with Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Designed for high-achieving 7th and 8th grade students across Cape Cod, the program offers a college-like campus experience focused on leadership development and project-based learning.

Students engage in hands-on instruction in STEM and the humanities while building collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership skills in a dynamic academic setting.

We are incredibly proud of these students for earning this opportunity and representing DYMS with excellence—congratulations! 🎉

🎻🥁 A Historic Night of Music at the Amphitheater 🎶

What an unforgettable evening at the amphitheater!

For the first time ever, the Dennis-Yarmouth Intermediate & Middle School 5–7 Fiddlers and 5–7 Steel Drums shared the stage in a concert that showcased the talent, dedication, and hard work of our student musicians. The evening culminated in a special combined performance, bringing both groups together for a one-of-a-kind finale that filled the amphitheater with energy, rhythm, and excitement.

Congratulations to all of the student performers and directors for an outstanding concert and a memorable night of music for families, friends, and the community!

Supporting Student Well-Being at DY Middle School

DYM is working to bring a school-based counseling program to our school in partnership with Child & Family Services (CFS). Once we have enough interested students and required paperwork is completed, we will be able to offer this support during the school day. CFS provides counseling services for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns. Services are delivered by licensed therapists, billed through medical insurance, and include collaboration with school staff. If you are interested in this opportunity for your child, please review the information attached about the CFS Outreach Counseling Program and complete the steps for your child to be involved.
