Fueling Healthy Habits in Health Class

Students in Ms. Coffey’s Health classes recently took part in a fun and interactive nutrition education lesson led by educators from the UMass Cape Cod Cooperative Extension. Students learned how to read food labels and explored the importance of balanced nutrition through MyPlate activities.

To wrap up the lesson, students competed in an exciting relay race where they raced down the corridor to sort food models into the correct food group bags. Congratulations to the Grade 6 Purple class for taking first place with an impressive time of 7 minutes and 10 seconds!

Celebrating an Inspiring Visit from Lynda Mullaly Hunt at DYM!

DYM students and staff had an incredible opportunity to welcome internationally acclaimed local author Lynda Mullaly Hunt to our school! Students attended a whole-school presentation, while selected students participated in a special VIP Q&A session in the library.

A true global sensation, Lynda Mullaly Hunt’s books have been published in 44 languages worldwide, with more than 2 million copies sold. Her award-winning novel Fish in a Tree earned both the ALA Schneider Family Book Award and the SCBWI Crystal Kite Award for its powerful representation of the disability experience. We are so fortunate to have such an accomplished author right here in Yarmouth inspiring our students through reading and writing.

Thank you, Lynda Mullaly Hunt, for such a memorable day at DYM!

Supporting Student Well-Being at DY Middle School

DYM is working to bring a school-based counseling program to our school in partnership with Child & Family Services (CFS). Once we have enough interested students and required paperwork is completed, we will be able to offer this support during the school day. CFS provides counseling services for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns. Services are delivered by licensed therapists, billed through medical insurance, and include collaboration with school staff. If you are interested in this opportunity for your child, please review the information attached about the CFS Outreach Counseling Program and complete the steps for your child to be involved.
