On Friday, April 10, DYIMS proudly celebrated Heroes Day, honoring the service and sacrifice of Sean Gannon and first responders in our community. Students and staff wore blue or first responder gear as a visible sign of respect and remembrance.
During advisory, students took time to reflect on what it means to be a hero. Each student received a blue heart and wrote personal messages describing the qualities they admire in everyday heroes. These reflections highlighted themes of courage, selflessness, and dedication to helping others.
The activity served as a meaningful way for students to connect with the importance of community service and to recognize those who put others before themselves.

On April 15, students attended a Teen Truth Assembly featuring Brandon McCall, a motivational speaker and youth football coach dedicated to helping students find their voice and make positive choices.
Brandon shared his personal story of growing up in a challenging inner-city environment, where negative influences were common and difficult to avoid. He spoke honestly about a turning point in his life during 8th grade, when his brother was involved in a street fight that resulted in a tragic loss of life. Facing the reality of his brother’s incarceration, Brandon recognized the impact of the choices he was making and made the decision to change his path.
He emphasized the importance of surrounding yourself with positive influences, including teachers, counselors, and peers who encourage growth and accountability. His message focused on taking responsibility, showing leadership, and building the confidence to make better decisions.
Today, Brandon continues to give back by working with students and coaching youth football, using his experiences to inspire others.
Assemblies like this serve as powerful opportunities to bring students together, reinforce important values, and support their growth both inside and outside the classroom.

On Thursday, April 16, DYM hosted the Jr. All Cape Chorus Festival. Chorus students from across Cape Cod came together at our school to rehearse and perform as one large festival chorus.
The event culminated in a 1:00 PM performance in the auditorium, where students joined voices to share a powerful musical experience.

It’s been a busy spring in Ms. Christopher’s 6th grade science classes as students explore science through hands-on learning and model making.
Moon Phases
Students are using models to better understand the different phases of the moon and how they occur.
Gravity
Using blankets and balls, students are exploring how gravity works and how mass and force interact.
Rock Cycle
Students are modeling the rock cycle with crayons, heat, and pressure to see how rocks change over time.
These activities are helping students better understand complex science concepts through active learning and exploration.

Students brought science to life by modeling the rock cycle using Starbursts! From creating sediment to forming sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rock (with a little magma in between), this hands-on activity helped students see how rocks change over time. A fun and memorable way to break down a complex process!

Students in French class brought language learning to life with an engaging running dictation activity! Working in teams, they took turns running to read and memorize sentences, then returned to dictate them in French while teammates wrote, illustrated, and encouraged one another. After rotating roles, groups organized their sentences to build a complete story. A fun and active way to strengthen language skills, collaboration, and confidence!

Celebrate the creativity of our students at the Dennis-Yarmouth K–12 Art Journey! This exhibit showcases artwork from across the district, highlighting the talent and growth of our young artists, including featured pieces by Riley Silva (Grade 7), Caleb Kelly (Grade 7), and Leah Riker (Grade 6).
Join us for the opening reception on Friday, May 1 from 5–7 PM at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, and experience the incredible work on display from April 23 through May 30.

DYM is working to bring a school-based counseling program to our school in partnership with Child & Family Services (CFS). Once we have enough interested students and required paperwork is completed, we will be able to offer this support during the school day. CFS provides counseling services for students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or mental health concerns. Services are delivered by licensed therapists, billed through medical insurance, and include collaboration with school staff. If you are interested in this opportunity for your child, please review the information attached about the CFS Outreach Counseling Program and complete the steps for your child to be involved.
