Innovation in the Library: Makerspace Transformed

Our library has always been a place for learning, but this winter, it took a bold step forward. The Makerspace has been reimagined and reorganized into a hands-on workshop designed to spark creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving across all grade levels.

The space is now divided into four distinct zones to support different types of thinking:
  • Build (Engineering): Students tackle hands-on engineering challenges, from constructing bridges to exploring mechanical design.
  • Tinker (Electronics): Snap Circuits and other electronics projects give students the tools to experiment and innovate.
  • Create (Artistic Design): Whether designing, crafting, or prototyping, students can let their imagination guide their projects.
  • Puzzle/Game (Logic & Strategy): Critical thinking and problem-solving come alive through games, puzzles, and strategy challenges.

Currently in a “Beta Testing” phase, students are using WINN sessions to explore the new layout. It’s been exciting to see learners move from being consumers of technology to creators—building, coding, and designing their own projects. Our new Green Screen and Podcast studio are also ready, giving students opportunities to record, edit, and produce their own digital content.

The Makerspace isn’t just for library time—it’s designed to support the entire school. Teachers are encouraged to bring classes into the space for project-based learning experiences, whether it’s 3D printing a model for a science experiment or recording a historical debate in the podcast studio.

As spring unfolds, we can’t wait to see the library come alive as a hub for creativity, innovation, and exploration. The “Library Lab” is ready—where ideas take shape, students become makers, and learning becomes an adventure!

Rolling Into Reading in French

Students are building their French reading skills through a fun, interactive game. They match pictures to the correct descriptions, then roll a die to determine their turn. Each student picks a number from 1–6 and jumps in when their number is rolled, keeping everyone engaged and practicing together.

🎭 Finding Nemo Jr. Shines on Stage!

This past weekend, our 6th and 7th graders delivered an amazing performance in Finding Nemo Jr.—full of energy, heart, and talent. From the colorful costumes to the lively music and seamless teamwork, every student played a part in bringing this undersea adventure to life. A huge congratulations to the cast, crew, and everyone who supported this unforgettable production! 🌊🐠✨

6th Grade Visits the Whydah Pirate Museum

Our 6th graders had an exciting visit to the Whydah Pirate Museum, exploring the history of the real pirate ship Whydah Gally and its treasures. Pirate Fred led an engaging scavenger hunt, and students participated in a hands-on concretion activity in the greenhouse. They also watched the introduction video and explored exhibits featuring authentic artifacts, including coins, navigation tools, and weapons, while learning about pirate life and shipwreck archaeology. This immersive experience combined history, science, and problem-solving in a fun, interactive way.
