Over the past week in the gym, students have had the opportunity to earn time on the rock wall. This has been a fun and motivating way to encourage focus, perseverance, and confidence while building strength and challenging themselves.

Ms. Wood’s class has been headstarting a diamondback terrapin for the Barnstable County Headstart Program. When he arrived in October, he weighed just 11 grams. Today, he’s up to an impressive 128 grams. This spring, he’ll be released back into the wild at Sandy Neck Beach. What an exciting journey to be part of.

This week in French class, students practiced using the word “never” (jamais) through a fun role-play. With menus in hand, students acted as waiters and asked classmates if they would like items like duck, snails, venison, croissants, beignets, or French fries with mayonnaise. Classmates responded with “Oui” or an enthusiastic “Jamais!” A great way to build vocabulary and confidence through conversation.

Last Friday, the gym at DYMS was buzzing with energy as our 7th grade students faced off against the staff in the annual Student vs. Staff basketball game. The atmosphere was electric, with students and teachers alike showing off their school spirit through colorful posters, loud cheers, and plenty of friendly rivalry.
The 7th graders came ready to compete, demonstrating teamwork, determination, and plenty of hustle on the court. The staff brought their own skills and a few surprises, ultimately taking down the students with a final score of 54 to 30. Fans of all ages packed the stands, cheering every basket and celebrating both effort and spirit.
Beyond the action on the court, the event highlighted the strong community at DYMS.
Students and staff alike enjoyed the camaraderie, the laughter, and the chance to come together for a fun, memorable afternoon.
It was a fantastic turnout, and whether you were rooting for the students or the staff, everyone left with smiles and memories of an event that truly celebrated school pride.
