DYMS Students Create a School-Wide Gratitude Garland

Related Arts teachers Ms. Sassaman, Mrs. Fratus, and Ms. Coffey had students reflect on what they are grateful for. Each student’s paper was linked together to form a beautiful, school-wide Gratitude Garland! 📝💛

Thankful for You!

This November, we’re showing appreciation for our amazing DY Middle School staff! Students, families, and colleagues can recognize any DY Middle School staff member — teachers, counselors, principals, paraprofessionals, cafeteria workers, secretaries, or any adult that has made a difference.

Use the Thankful for You Google Form to share your gratitude. Each message will be printed on a certificate and delivered to the staff member you’re thankful for. Let’s spread some kindness and show our staff how much they’re appreciated! 💚🍁

Finding Their Voice ✏️✨

Our 7th grade ELD 2 students have been wrapping up a unit on bravery, learning how poems are structured and how to bring their ideas to life through creative writing. They’ve just finished their first poems in English, each one reflecting a personal moment of courage. Their work will be on display in the classroom for everyone to enjoy.

Dear D-Y Families,

This time of year, we often see an increase in illness. Deciding whether to keep your child home can be tricky. Regular attendance is important, but sick students need rest to recover and prevent spreading illness.

Keep your child home if:
  • Fever over 100.4°F (return after 24 hours fever-free without medication)
  • Vomiting or diarrhea (return after 24 symptom-free hours)
  • Diagnosed with strep throat (return after 24 hours of antibiotics and no fever)
  • Diagnosed with pertussis (return after 5 days of antibiotics)
  • Unexplained or contagious rash (return with healthcare clearance)

Send your child to school if:
  • Mild symptoms (runny nose, minor cough, mild stomach ache)
  • No fever overnight and feeling well enough to participate

Seek medical care if:
  • Fever with ear pain, sore throat, rash, or persistent cough
  • Signs of dehydration, severe pain, breathing difficulty, or concerning rash/eye symptoms

Even missing a few days each month can affect learning. For questions about symptoms, contact your school nurse.
Thank you for helping keep our community healthy!
