Action Needed: Please Review & Sign the DYMS Student & Guardian Handbook

Dear Families,

As we begin the school year, we ask that all families take a moment to review and sign off on our Student & Guardian Handbook. This handbook includes important information such as:
  • Key dates throughout the school year
  • Homework expectations
  • Student behavior and responsibility guidelines
  • Attendance policies

✨ Please pay close attention to the sections highlighted in green. These areas outline the most important expectations as your child transitions to middle school and will help ensure a smooth and successful start to the year.

✅ Once reviewed, please complete the sign-off form to acknowledge that you and your student have read and understood the handbook.

Thank you for partnering with us to support our Dolphins in having a safe, structured, and successful school year filled with Dolphin Pride!

Student-Led Conferences

We want to make sure the Student-Led Conference (SLC) sign-up process is clear and easy for everyone.

✅ Every student has been assigned a SLC facilitator. This staff member will meet with your student four times before your scheduled conference to help prepare their individual SLC portfolio.

📅 When scheduling your conference, please sign up for only one appointment with your child’s assigned SLC facilitator. This is the person who will guide the conference and ensure all elements of your child’s portfolio are ready.

✉️ Last Friday, your child’s SLC facilitator should have sent you a private group message with their individual link to sign up for an appointment.

⚠️ If you have accidentally scheduled with a different staff member, we kindly ask that you cancel that appointment and re-schedule only with your child’s SLC facilitator.

Your partnership is essential in helping us make this new initiative successful. We apologize in advance if there has been confusion with this matter. Thank you for your support as we work together to showcase student growth and learning! 💚🐬 #DolphinPride

Another Day, Another Adventure in Reading! 📚

On Friday, September 12, we celebrated our summer reading program! Students explored more than 42 different titles this summer—from fantasy and fiction to anime, sports, nonfiction, and horror. The afternoon was spent sharing what we read and taking part in fun activities inspired by our texts.

🥗🥪🍲 Soup, Salad, or Sandwich?

Our students have been practicing their Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning (CER) writing with a fun twist. Using everyday foods, they had to decide if each item fit best as a 🥣 soup, 🥗 salad, or 🥪 sandwich—and then back up their choice with clear evidence and reasoning. It was a playful way to strengthen writing skills while making strong arguments.

🌟 PJammin’ for Kids with Cancer 🌟

Thank you to everyone who wore their pajamas and donated—we raised $325 in support of kids with cancer! 💛

Your generosity made a difference, and we’re so proud of our school community.

Getting to Know Our Counselors & MEFA Pathways

Your student’s grade-level counselors—Ms. Shaw (6th Grade) and Mrs. Ennis (7th Grade)—recently visited classes to introduce themselves, encourage students to reach out whenever they need support, and begin exploring MEFA Pathways.

MEFA Pathways is a digital platform that helps students discover college and career options through interactive games and assessments. Over the year, students will uncover their interests, values, and skills, then use that knowledge to research careers, explore potential college majors, and build a personalized portfolio to track their progress toward post-secondary goals.

Photo/Media Opt-Out

The process for photo/media permissions has changed. In the past, families filled out a form. Now, if you do not want your child’s image or name shared by the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District, you must send a signed opt-out letter to your school principal by October 1 (or within 30 days of mid-year enrollment).

Student photos and videos may appear on the district website, social media, yearbooks, and occasionally with local media. Names are only shared for honors, awards, and graduation. Please note, this does not apply to public events such as performances, competitions, or athletic games.

Action Required: PowerSchool Annual Student Information Verification

We need your help completing the Annual Student Information Verification Form for the upcoming school year.

For the safety and well-being of our students, it is essential that student information is reviewed and updated at least once each year to ensure we have accurate and current records.
This process replaces many of the forms that are traditionally sent home, streamlining the annual information collection and update process. If you are unable to complete this digitally, please contact your child’s school for assistance.

Please take a few moments to:
  • Review and verify all existing information
  • Fill in any missing fields
  • Check all necessary boxes

This update must be completed for each child listed in your Parent Portal account.
To assist you, we’ve included step-by-step instructions below for completing the form using either the PowerSchool Mobile App or the Parent Portal Website.

Thank you for your attention to this important task. By reviewing and confirming your child’s information, you are helping us provide the highest level of care and support throughout the school year.
