Action Needed: Please Review & Sign the DYMS Student & Guardian Handbook

Dear Families,

As we begin the school year, we ask that all families take a moment to review and sign off on our Student & Guardian Handbook. This handbook includes important information such as:
  • Key dates throughout the school year
  • Homework expectations
  • Student behavior and responsibility guidelines
  • Attendance policies

✨ Please pay close attention to the sections highlighted in green. These areas outline the most important expectations as your child transitions to middle school and will help ensure a smooth and successful start to the year.

✅ Once reviewed, please complete the sign-off form to acknowledge that you and your student have read and understood the handbook.

Thank you for partnering with us to support our Dolphins in having a safe, structured, and successful school year filled with Dolphin Pride!

Pajama Day for Kids with Cancer

On September 19, 2025, Dennis-Yarmouth Middle School will host a pajama day in honor of Jace Jones to support children battling cancer. Students and staff are encouraged to wear pajamas as a symbol of solidarity with young cancer patients, whose “battle uniform” is often their pajamas during treatment. Donations will benefit the American Childhood Cancer Organization.

ParentSquare

Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District uses ParentSquare district-wide. If you're not already familiar with ParentSquare it's a classroom communication and district wide messaging tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. ParentSquare is free to use, and you'll be able to get and send messages on any device.

Here is a video demo to see how ParentSquare works. You can choose to receive messages as they are sent, or select one digest per day that condenses everything into one post. No matter what you choose, you will receive emergency and important alerts as they are sent.
You can change your preferred language so you can receive messages in the language of your choice. You can reply to messages in your chosen language and it will be translated.

We encourage you to check out this parent guide to get tips on how to use ParentSquare.

Note: Once your child is enrolled in the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School district, you will receive texts and emails to the information you provided when you registered. To log into the ParentSquare app or website, please use the phone number or email you provided at registration to log into your account and make any changes.

Photo/Media Opt-Out

The process for photo/media permissions has changed. In the past, families filled out a form. Now, if you do not want your child’s image or name shared by the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District, you must send a signed opt-out letter to your school principal by October 1 (or within 30 days of mid-year enrollment).

Student photos and videos may appear on the district website, social media, yearbooks, and occasionally with local media. Names are only shared for honors, awards, and graduation. Please note, this does not apply to public events such as performances, competitions, or athletic games.

Notes from the Library

A man gives a presentation titled 'Library Orientation' in a modern room.
Hello! My name is Mr. Maxwell, and I’m excited to join the D-Y Middle School community as your new librarian. I look forward to working with students, families, and staff to make the library a welcoming space for reading, learning, and creating.

This month, all sixth graders will visit the library during their Social Studies classes for library orientation. They’ll get to know the space, review expectations, and learn how to use our self-checkout station so they can confidently borrow books on their own.

In just a couple of weeks, students will also be able to sign up for Library Lunch—a chance to spend lunchtime reading, playing a quiet game, puzzling, or working on a project with friends.

Throughout the fall, we’ll begin opening up the Makerspace with materials students can explore, and we’re planning to launch after-school Makerspace sessions soon as well.

The library is here for students as a place to read, create, explore, and connect. I can’t wait to see how they make it their own!

Grade 7 Health Students Learn Through Play

This week, Grade 7 Health students played the board game PayDay to practice making financial decisions. Along the way, they also built skills in reading instructions, taking turns, and showing good sportsmanship.

Action Required: PowerSchool Annual Student Information Verification

We need your help completing the Annual Student Information Verification Form for the upcoming school year.

For the safety and well-being of our students, it is essential that student information is reviewed and updated at least once each year to ensure we have accurate and current records.
This process replaces many of the forms that are traditionally sent home, streamlining the annual information collection and update process. If you are unable to complete this digitally, please contact your child’s school for assistance.

Please take a few moments to:
  • Review and verify all existing information
  • Fill in any missing fields
  • Check all necessary boxes

This update must be completed for each child listed in your Parent Portal account.
To assist you, we’ve included step-by-step instructions below for completing the form using either the PowerSchool Mobile App or the Parent Portal Website.

Thank you for your attention to this important task. By reviewing and confirming your child’s information, you are helping us provide the highest level of care and support throughout the school year.

Using the PowerSchool Mobile App (top image)

After signing into the App, click on “More” at the bottom, then Click on “Forms” to get to the list of available Forms. SCROLL ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM and Click on “Student Information Verification Form - Current Students Only”

Using the Parent Portal Website (bottom image)
